Use of trash bin

When there are too many files existing in our computers, the systems will start to run slowly. Therefore, we have to delete some files to save our computers’ hard drive in order to make our systems run faster and these files will be stored in the trash bin. Today, I would like to talk about how trash bin works in our computers.

The Trash bin serves as the last point of existence for our files. When files are deleted, they are first moved here by the user or other software. Then, in most cases, they are usually referred by the operating system (OS) as emptying the bin. In this step, the OS deletes the records of these files and marks the space they occupied as free. However, the date that was stored is still technically there until it is overwritten by new data. So, when we are trying to delete sensitive data and prevent data recovery from other people, we need to run a secure empty, which might be provided by the operating systems and other third-party software, to delete these files.

When we want to recover files which we deleted, we just simply open the bin and click on the files and move them to the desktop or other places. Then, the files we deleted will be taken out of our File Allocation Table (FAT), which is an index of all the files in our computers.

  1. I never think about that trash bin, a thing we use almost every day, has such significant connection with computer science! It is surprising that even emptying the bin cannot totally delete the file.
